Privacy Rights
Individuals in Alberta have a reasonable expectation of privacy, which can be protected if it is found that an individual has violated the privacy rights of another.

Instances where privacy rights are violated can include when individuals publicly share intimate information and pictures of another, or where private information is directed towards an individual’s employers, family members, or other important collateral contacts.
To protect and enforce one’s right to privacy a person can address this through a Claim that is either filed within family civil litigation, if this is against a family member, or through general civil litigation.
It is important that steps are taken to dissuade an individual who may have threatened to contact and release private information before this occurs.
An individual can seek damages against a person for violation of their privacy rights, in doing so there would need to be careful documentation of the events that have occurred and corroborating evidence confirming this violation of privacy rights.
